Aluminium solubility in acid waters of the abandoned open pyrite mine at

چکیده
The study of chemical composition of waters in the abandoned open pyrite mine at WieSciszowice (the Rudawy Janowickie Mts., the W Sudetes, SW Poland) has been canied out with the aim of detennining the conditions of mobi1i7..ation and solubility of aluminium. Both the ion activities and the saturation of water samples with respect to mineral phases have been calculated using the WATEQ4F computer program. Sulphate waters have been found in the mine area. with total dissolved solids g-DS) in the range of 1500--5800 mgll, low pH (2.50--2.98) and high concentration of aluminium, from 1.18 . 10to 6.52 . 10M (31.9-176 mgll AI). The analysis of ion activities and chemical equilibrium of waters from the mine area indicates thD.t aluminium solubility is controlled by the basic aluminium sulphate, AIOHS04. On the other hand, clay minernls (most likely kaolinite) control AI content in waters occuning in the outcrop of pyrite-bearing schists oulo;;ide the mine area.

Gold, Silver and Iron in Iron Oxy-hydroxide Precipitate Formed in Process of Acid Mine Drainage
Oxidation of sulfide-containing ores is the main cause of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), which is an environmental problem associated with both the abandoned and active mines. Iron-bearing sulfide minerals can be oxidized and form mine waters with high sulfate content, low pH, high electrical conductivity, high redox potential, and high concentrations of iron, aluminum, and other heavy metals. In th...
متن کاملOverview of Rare Earth Element Investigations in Acid Waters of U. S. Geological Survey Abandoned Mine Lands Watersheds
The geochemistry of rare earth element (REE) variations in acid waters is being studied as part of the U. S. Geological Survey Abandoned Mine Lands Initiative in two pilot watersheds, upper Animas, Colorado and Boulder, Montana. The following objectives are under investigation: (1) comparison of acid mine waters and naturally acidic springs, (2) determination of whether the dominant control on ...

A case study of cerussite-dominated mine tailings (5-7 wt% Pb) from the former lead-zinc Grogwynion Mine, Mid Wales (UK), is presented with the objective of providing an improved understanding of the chemical speciation that controls element release from the waste in the short and long term. An experimental and modelling approach was used to examine the effects of pH changes in fresh waters int...

Secondary jarosite and water-soluble iron-sulfate minerals control the composition of acid mine waters formed by the oxidation of sulfide in tailings impoundments at the (Zn-Pb-Ag) Pan de Azúcar mine located in the Pozuelos Lagoon Basin (semi-arid climate) in Northwest (NW) Argentina. In the primary zone of the tailings (9.5 wt % pyrite-marcasite) precipitation of anglesite (PbSO4), wupatkite (...

The principal objective of the current study was to elucidate the potential influence of acid mine drainage (AMD) pond on neighboring farmer's wells in the Podwiśniówka area (south-central Poland), using North American Shale Composite (NASC)-normalized rare earth element (REE) concentration profiles. The well waters generally displayed a distinctly positive Eu anomaly similar to that of parent ...
